These sessions are called the quasi-ritualized therapeutic sessions which are usually informal and encourage a lot of discussions. These discussions and meetings are held on a weekly basis. There are two types of meetings which are closed and open meetings. These meetings depend on the members who are attending them.

The closed meetings are for the members who have a desire to stop drinking. The open meetings are for everyone. The members of the committee start sharing their experiences and tell their stories.

It is more of general discussion and some meetings are devoted to the AA literature. These meetings are open for all kinds of men, women, young and old, etc. All are welcome to these meetings be it alcoholics or non alcoholics.

To maintain uniformity and to encourage a healthy discussion, pamphlets and brochures on the meeting formats are distributed. However, the group or the members have the right to change the agenda provided there is complete support.

The topics of discussion can vary from different cultures and ritual aspects. These Alcoholic anonymous meetings are quite interesting to watch and are very interactive. Various topics from around the world are discussed and all kinds of viewpoints come out in the discussion.

According to the group, alcoholism is a disease and if it is not cured the right way, there is a tendency that is can never be cured. These kinds of meetings help these alcoholics divert their thoughts away from alcohol.

Irrespective of the position and the occupation of a person, anyone can become a member of the AA group. The main aim is to develop these people by creating a healthy mindset with healthy discussions rather than wasting resources on counseling which might or might not help in the long run.
